CRITICAL INCIDENT DEBRIEFING

Our specialist Critical Incident Debriefing service provides timely intervention after your workforce suffers a traumatic incident at the workplace.

Such events can have a significant impact upon the wellbeing of your staff and the operational efficiency of your business. So it’s reassuring to know that our Critical Incident Trauma team will be on hand to mitigate the disruptive effect of such incidents.

The correct timing

As in most other forms of intervention, a rapid response to a traumatic event is critical. However, the nature of any support will vary depending on the specific situation. Indeed, a large scale intervention in the first instance may not necessarily produce the most effective results.

So rather than flooding a site with a whole team of helpers, we at Mind Matters focus on delivering the right kind of support at the right time. (The NICE guidelines for trauma advocate a 'watch and wait' approach similar to ours.)

Of course every situation is unique, and our experience in this field enables us to provide a service that is tailored to any individual organisation's needs at any given time.

OUR CRITICAL INCIDENT TRAUMA TEAM

When a traumatic incident occurs in the workplace, ensuring that you have professional support to hand is essential. Working with Mind Matters Critical Incident Team allows you to access the following:

·       TELEPHONE SUPPORT - instant access to a telephone support team.

·      CRITICAL INCIDENT MANAGEMENT TEAM - direct access to the management team who will provide a telephone consultation and advice both for the organisation and the clinical needs of individuals.

·      SCREEN - a Critical Incident Manager will screen individuals involved in an incident to assess appropriate levels of support required.

·      PSYCHOLOGICAL DEBRIEFING - debriefing can be held on a Group or Individual basis depending on the needs of the individuals.

·      POST-TRAUMA COUNSELLING - individual face-to-face counselling for any members of your team suffering from the symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

CRITICAL INCIDENT EXAMPLE

Imagine a traumatic incident is reported in a workplace. The manager of the business is concerned that five members of her staff may require support. She makes an immediate call to the Case Management Team and discusses the situation. The Case Manager makes

contact with all five members of staff the same days and holds a telephone assessment with each of them.

Following the telephone assessment, two of the employees are considered to be coping well and in no need of help. The remaining individuals clearly require support, and so an appropriate appointment is set up with a registered counsellor within 72 hours of the incident
